What to Bring to Fencing Camp: Preparing for Your First Day

Preparing for Your First Day

Starting fencing camp is exciting — whether your child is trying fencing for the first time or returning for another summer of training. To help families feel confident and prepared, here’s everything you need to know before the first day.

What to Bring to Fencing Camp

Most families are pleasantly surprised at how simple it is to get started.

For new fencers, we provide all essential fencing equipment through our rental program (included in the New Camper Promo or available weekly or for the full summer). That means you don’t need to purchase specialized gear right away.

Here’s what campers should bring each day:

• Comfortable athletic clothing (t-shirt and athletic shorts or sweatpants)
• Sneakers with good grip (court or cross-training shoes are best)
• A refillable water bottle
• Nut-free lunch and snacks
• Any personal medications (clearly labeled)

That’s it. We take care of the rest.

Equipment: Do I Need to Buy Anything?

No — beginners do not need to purchase equipment before camp.

Fencing gear, including mask, jacket, glove, and weapon, is included in the New Camper Promo week. For additional weeks, families may rent equipment for $65 per week or purchase a full-summer equipment pass for $200.

Returning or competitive fencers are welcome to bring their own equipment.

What to Expect on the First Day

The first day is designed to help campers feel comfortable and confident.

Coaches introduce basic movements, safety guidelines, and foundational skills in a supportive, structured setting. Campers are grouped by age and experience level to ensure everyone feels appropriately challenged.

New fencers often begin with:

• Basic footwork and movement drills
• Introductory blade work
• Fencing games that build coordination and reaction time
• Supervised practice bouts

Our goal is for every child to leave day one feeling successful and excited to return.

Drop-Off & Pick-Up

We offer convenient camp locations in East Side Manhattan, West Side Manhattan, and Port Chester, NY. Early drop-off and late pick-up options are available to accommodate busy family schedules.

Our staff ensures smooth transitions at both drop-off and dismissal so parents can feel confident their child is safe and supervised.

How to Help Your Child Feel Ready

If your child is new to fencing:

• Reassure them that no experience is required
• Let them know they’ll be learning alongside other beginners
• Encourage them to try their best and have fun

Fencing camp is about building skill, confidence, and friendships — not being perfect.

We Make Summer Easy

Our camps are designed to be structured, welcoming, and development-focused. Whether your child is trying fencing for the first time or continuing their competitive training, we create an environment where they can grow safely and confidently.

If you have any questions before camp begins, our team is always happy to help.

We look forward to seeing you on the strip.
