TMFC at Summer Nationals: Ella Calise Fences to Silver on a Three-Medal Day

Day 3 in Portland brought Tim Morehouse Fencing Club back to the national podium — three times.

Ella Calise fenced all the way to a SILVER medal in Junior Women’s Foil, one of the deepest events of the entire championship. She went 6–0 in the pools (+23) and won round after round of single-elimination to reach the gold-medal final and finish 2nd in the nation.

Philip Matsakh earned a top-8 national medal in Division I Men’s Foil, finishing 5th in the country after a 5–1 pool round. And Alexia Anthony added a top-8 medal in Division I Women’s Saber.

Behind the medals was one of TMFC’s deepest showings of the week: nine fencers in Junior Women’s Foil alone, with Zizi Dai (19th), Iris Yang (27th) and Grace Feng (54th) all finishing in national-points positions, joined by Amabel Wang, Julianna Field, Elizabeth Field, Savannah Li and Ella Zhu.

That’s three medals on Day 3 — and five for TMFC so far at Summer Nationals.
