TMFC at Summer Nationals: Charlotte Choi Takes Bronze in Cadet Women’s Saber

PORTLAND, OR — Day 4 of the USA Fencing Summer National Championships opened with the Tim Morehouse Fencing Club back on the national podium, as Charlotte Choi fenced to a BRONZE medal in Cadet Women’s Saber — third in the nation in one of the largest cadet events of the championship.

Choi was untouchable in the pools, sweeping all six bouts for a 6–0 record with a +19 indicator and the No. 7 seed into a 251-fencer tableau. From there she won bout after bout of single-elimination — where one touch can end your day — all the way to the semifinals, clinching a national bronze. It is TMFC’s sixth medal of Summer Nationals.

She wasn’t alone on the strips. TMFC sent nine fencers into Cadet Women’s Saber alone — behind Choi came Sophia Ng (79th), Bethany Bush (97th) and Lily Laffy (103rd), joined by Nora McCarthy, Sofia Cafagna, Ava Ilagan, Chuqing Shi and Isabel Kim — one of the club’s deepest single-event showings of the week.

In the senior Division I-A Women’s Foil, a familiar group of TMFC foilists turned right back around after their Junior event and delivered points-paying results: Savannah Li (19th) and Julianna Field (20th) both earned national points, with Elizabeth Field climbing from 43rd after pools to 29th, and Amabel Wang finishing 46th. In Cadet Men’s Épée, Touma Carpenter and Hogan McGrath represented the club in a 329-fencer field.

That’s a national bronze on Day 4 — and six medals for TMFC so far at Summer Nationals. Follow every bout live on TMFC Connect. Go TMFC!
