Stamford, CT (Oct 7-8, 2023) — With the most Morehouse fencers participating one tournament ever, it’s no wonder Tim Morehouse saber fencers prevailed.
In each of the saber events at the 9-State Fencing Cup, there were Morehouse medals from cadets to Y-8.
Starting with the women, Brynnley McKee took gold in Cadet Women's Saber, with Varvara Mankova taking silver and earning her C23 rating.
In Y-14 Women's Saber, Olivia Mermegas won fifth place, with Pompie Yannopoulos coming in close in seventh place.
Charlotte Choi finished in sixth place in Y-12 Women's Saber. Meanwhile, in Y-10 Women's Saber, Anika von Marie Kabling, Nia Maluki and Anna Willer took fifth, seventh and eighth places, respectively.
The youngest Morehouse women fencers dominated Y-8 with Zoe Morehouse taking silver, Akari Tomonari in bronze, Leonie Steinberg-Luo winning fifth place and Isabella Frigeri finishing in seventh.
On the men’s side, Alexander Francois took silver in Cadet, earning his C23 rating. Teammate Enzo Bera won seventh place.
Marcus Pinto won gold in Y-14 Men's Saber and led the way for an almost-Morehouse sweep. Ethan Kim won silver, Alex Fadel and Ryan Waxler won bronze, Royce Zhao finished in fifth place and Isaac Yook earned sixth place.
Y-12 Men’s Saber wasn’t much different. Vedh Srivats won the gold. Royce Zhao and Alexander Mermegas shared bronze. Aidan Song and Dihou Zai shared fifth place and Timothy Chang finished eighth.
Maximilian Hagn won bronze in Y-10 Men's Saber. Leo Shapiro and Harrison Wang took fifth and sixth places, respectively.
The youngest men — Y-8 Men’s Saber — saw William Clark and Panos Tournas with bronze medals. Luca Merolla won fifth place, Lorenzo Mangini won a sixth-place medal and Leonidas Constantine earned a seventh-place medal.
