Foiled! TMFC Foilists Bring Their Best to The 9-State Cup

Stamford, CT (Oct 7-8, 2023) — The Tim Morehouse Fencing Club foilists are fire!

They showed their mettle as they faced off against some of the best fencers in the 9-State region. From the youngest to the oldest, there was not a category left untouched by TMFC foil fencers.

Philip Matsakh brought home gold in Cadet Men’s Foil as did Iris Yang in Y-14 Women’s Foil.

Yang, along with her teammates Zizi Dai and Grace Feng, each had double medal weekends. Feng took silver in Y-14 and bronze in Cadet Women’s Foil. Dai took silver in Cadet Women’s Foil and seventh place in Y-14. And Yang’s second came with a sixth-place finish in Cadet Women’s Foil.

Leon Zhou earned a bronze medal in Cadet Men’s Foil along with his D23 rating. Ethan Chen took bronze in Y-14 Men’s Foil. Michael Grigoriev earned bronze in Y-12 Men’s Foil, with teammate Thomas Czarnecki sharing the medal stand in seventh place.

In Y-12 Women’s Foil, Savannah Li took seventh and Amabel Wang secured seventh place.

Finally, the youngest foil fencers showed toughness with Luca Yang winning a silver medal and Nicholas Czarnecki winning sixth place in Y-8 Mixed Foil.
