TMFC at Summer Nationals: Shapiro Storms to Top-16 as 58 TMFC Kids Reach the National Points
Portland, Ore. — July 5, 2026. The young guns owned Day 9. In a 225-strong Y-12 Men's Saber field, Leo Shapiro charged all the way to the Top-16 — 9th in the nation — with Max Lloyd (23rd) and Harrison Wang (33rd) fencing into the national points beside him. Sebastian Urtubi (99th), Bennett Sabino (100th), Boyan Kuljiev (131st), Ryan Zhou (143rd), Lorenzo Mangini (161st) and Thomas Fernaine (210th) rounded out a nine-man squad.

In Y-12 Men's Foil (253 fencers), every single TMFC entrant earned national points: Lucas Lin 30th, Andrew Li 42nd, Will Qian 51st, Nolan Moon 58th, Owen Tardiff 73rd and Luca Yang 97th. Six for six — a program statement.
The Progress Story
One day after banking experience against the 12-year-olds, Amelia Tsui returned to her own Y-10 age group and finished 30th of 83 — earning national points at age 10. Zoe Morehouse (60th) and Ryan Vomacka (64th) added first-Nationals strip time. In Div III Men's Saber, Etienne Smith (51st) and Sebastian Rosado (64th) both reached the points, while Ellie Paek (107th, Y-12 Women's Foil), Amelia Gomez (181st), Taisei Carpenter (119th, Y-12 Men's Épée), Laila Abdelfatah (60th) and Aria Tatini (82nd, Y-10 Women's Épée) kept swinging in deep fields.
The Big Number: 58
Eleven TMFC kids earned national points today — and 58 TMFC kids have now earned national points at this tournament. Twelve medals, a national champion, and fifty-eight young fencers on the national rankings. The pathway is working.
