Paxton Liou Brings Home His First International Gold for TMFC

Tim Morehouse Fencing Club’s next generation is on the rise.

Paxton Liou, competing as a Youth-8 fencer, captured his first international gold medal at the Pan American Youth Championships, winning the Youth A category against fencers as old as Youth-9.

The victory marks another major milestone for one of TMFC’s exciting young athletes — and continues an impressive competitive season for Paxton.

Earlier, Paxton also captured gold at the Capitol Clash Super Youth Circuit, competing under the guidance of his coach, Olympic Silver Medalist and TMFC founder Tim Morehouse.

“Paxton is a special young fencer,” said Morehouse. “He works extremely hard, he is focused, and he shows many of the same qualities we’ve seen in students who have gone on to achieve tremendous success. He is loyal, he understands our team approach as a club, and most importantly, he loves fencing and loves getting better. I’m incredibly excited to see how he progresses.”

A Young Fencer With a Bright Future

Despite his young age, Paxton has already begun building an impressive competitive fencing résumé.

His development reflects the philosophy behind TMFC’s youth program: start young, build strong fundamentals, develop a love for the sport, learn how to compete, and surround each athlete with a team of coaches committed to their long-term development.

Paxton isn’t the only Liou showing promise. His younger sister began fencing at just six years old and is now developing with TMFC’s coaching team, continuing a family journey in the sport that could be exciting to watch in the years ahead.

The Next Generation of TMFC

Paxton’s international victory comes as another generation of young TMFC athletes begins making its mark.

Over more than a decade, TMFC has built a coaching and development system in which students have opportunities to work with Olympians, Olympic coaches, international coaches and elite youth-development coaches.

The club has also invested heavily in developing the next generation of fencing coaches — providing opportunities for young coaches to begin their careers while supporting Olympians and elite athletes as they train and transition into coaching.

That combination has helped TMFC dramatically expand access to competitive fencing and create a development pipeline stretching from a child’s first fencing class all the way to the highest levels of the sport.

The results are increasingly visible. Seventeen fencers developed at TMFC competed at last season’s Cadet and Junior World Championships — an extraordinary representation from a single development program.

And behind them is another wave. Young athletes like Paxton are beginning their own competitive journeys, learning from the athletes and coaches who came before them while establishing their own goals and accomplishments.

First International Gold — And Just the Beginning

For Paxton, the Pan American Youth Championship represents something particularly special: his first international gold medal.

At only Youth-8, there is a tremendous amount of fencing still ahead. For TMFC, that is exactly the point.

The goal isn’t simply to produce young champions. It is to create an environment where talented young athletes can fall in love with fencing, work hard, grow up together, learn champion values and see how far their commitment can take them.
