Day NINE: Iris Yang, Marcus Pinto and Ethan Chen Earn Medals

Phoenix, AZ (July 8, 2023) — Two bronze medals and a seventh-place finish? We’ll take them.

The Y-12 events were very good to the Tim Morehouse Fencing Club fencers. In Y-12 Women’s Foil, Iris Yang put her World Cup experience to good use and earned a bronze medal. The Brazilian U16 champion Marcus Pinto is also the bronze medal winner in Y-12 Men’s Saber. And Ethan Chen fought for a seventh-place finish in Y-12 Men’s Foil.

In Division II Men’s Foil, Brendan Lee (28) made the top-32 and Jackson Wang (57) made the top-64.

In Division III Women’s Saber, Sofia Schaible (20) made the top-32 and Varvara Mankova (64) Made the top-64.

In Y-10 Women’s Saber, Charlotte Choi (26) made top-32, and Nora Louisa McCarthy (44T), Sienna Young (49) and Keira Wang (50) made the top-64.

In Y-12 Women’s Foil, Grace Feng (16) made the top-16 and Amabel Wang just missed it, coming in at 19T.

Y-10 Women’s Saber had Charlotte Choi (26) making the top-32 and Nora Louisa McCarthy (44T), Sienna Young (49) and Keira Wang (50) in the top-64. Not bad for Summer National newbies.

In Y-12 Men’s Saber, Aram Clark (13) and Miles Chambers (15) just missed the medal round. Tim Morehouse fencers dominated the top-64 with Isaac Yook (33), William Lucas (44), Royce Zhao (45) and Vedh Srivats (46).

In Y-12 Men’s Foil, Michael Grigoriev (30) and Hauchen Yu (43T) made the top-64.

The National Championships and July Challenge (Summer Nationals) in Phoenix, AZ, will draw to a close on July 9. This signature tournament featured 96 events (and 96 medal ceremonies) over 10 days. Medals — and national championships — were on the line in every USA Fencing classification, from the youngest (Y-10) to the most seasoned veterans (Vet-80).
