Orlando, FL (Oct 26, 2023) — Gabriel “Legend” McCarthy is a gold medalist.

The longtime Tim Morehouse Fencing Club member fought his way to the top of the heap in Division II Men’s Saber at the October North American Cup at the Orlando Convention Center. In the process, he earned his B23 rating.

The October NAC, or North American Cup, is the first national competition in the 2023-2024 season. Earning national points puts fencers in contention for the Junior Olympics and junior national teams that can compete internationally.

This is the first national gold medal for this 16-year-old, a junior at The Bronx High School of Science. It was also the first medal won by Tim Morehouse Fencing Club at the October NAC.

Also competing in this event was TMFC teammate Samuel Sugiura who finished in 10th place and earned a D23 rating. Matthew Fields finished in 47th place.

Congratulations to McCarthy, his coaches and his family.
