Coach Hamdy with Shaun Kim

Salt Lake City, UT (December 10, 2022) — Tim Morehouse Fencing Club’s Shaun Kim is a gold medalist.

The native of Greenwich came out on top of 212 fencers from across the country competing in the Cadet Men’s Saber event at the North American Cup.

Leaving pools in 17th place, Kim won five of his six bouts, only giving up seven points. He only hit one real challenge in his direct elimination bouts, going 15-7, 15-6, 15-3 and 15-14 to make the top 8. His final two bouts were and 15-3 and 15-9.

Kim trains at Tim Morehouse Fencing Club at its Westchester and Manhattan locations with Coach Ahmed Hamdy and Olympian Tim Morehouse. He attends the Hackley School.

This fencer has been on a roll this season. He won a gold medal at the Men’s Saber Cadet World Cup in Sofia, Bulgaria, as part of Team USA last month. A week later, in Eislington, Germany, Kim was able to pull off his second international medal in two weeks. This time, he was part of the bronze medal-winning team. Prior to the NAC win, he was ranked eighth in Men’s Saber fencers in the country.
