Greenwich’s Shaun Kim Earns World Cup Gold

Sofia, Bulgaria (November 19-20, 2022) — Tim Morehouse fencer Shaun Kim earned a gold medal at the Men’s Saber Cadet World Cup in Bulgaria, as part of Team USA 1.

The other members of the team were Taylor Chon, Cody Ji and TMFC alum Willam Morrill.

Team USA 2, which consisted of Tim Morehouse Fencer Gabriel McCarthy, Matthew Chan, William Holz and Anthony Jiang finished in fourth place. 

In the individual Men’s Saber competition, Kim placed 35th and McCarthy placed 94th.

Kim is a resident of Greenwich, CT and attends the Hackley School. He trains at the Tim Morehouse Fencing Club in Port Chester, NY.

There was Women’s Foil World Cup action in Nurenberg, Germany, where Tim Morehouse Fencing Club was also represented. 

Alina Zhang fought hard to finish in the top-32 (28) of the field of 270 in the individual competition. Iris Yang made the top-64, finishing in 57th place.

In the teams competition, Zhang was a part of Team USA 2, which took a fifth-place finish. Her teammates were Victoria Pevzner, Adeline Senic and Jia Chen.

Yang was a member of Team USA 5 along with Sandra Luo and Lavender Lee. This team fought hard to finish in ninth place.
