Connor Chung has Mastered Time Travel

College Park, MD and Birmingham, AL (April 13-14, 2024) — It appeared that Connor Chung was in two places at the same time.

One minute, he was on the podium accepting a fifth-place medal for Division I-A Men’s Saber at the Cherry Blossom ROC in College Park, MD. And in a blink, he was fencing in the Y-14 Men’s Saber event at the Magic City SJCC, where he earned a bronze medal.

It wasn’t really super-natural, but a well-planned double tourney weekend.

Explains Conner’s mom, Kitty Chan, “He finished the event in late afternoon, and we caught an almost red eye with connecting flight from DC to Birmingham. It was a tough schedule, but we expected it and weathered it.”

She added that there was a litany of obstacles: bad food, DC traffic, a missed flight, dashing to catch the remaining flight of the day, a dumb hotel shuttle policy, the most expensive hot dog and coffee in a convention center and more.

Still, she added, it was great training for competitions to come.

Congratulations to Connor and his family.
