Tim Morehouse Fencing Club Finishes 2nd In The Country with 21 Medals at the USA Fencing Summer Nationals 2019

Columbus, OH - Building on a stellar regular season that saw Tim Morehouse Fencing Club (TMFC) finish first in the Super Youth Circuit (SYC) Medal rankings and qualify its first Cadet National Team Member, TMFC came into the 2019 nationals with a strong potential for results but the outcome eclipsed even the coaches best expectations with a 21 medal performance.

After only 3 full years of operation, TMFC posted some incredible numbers:

• Tim Morehouse Fencing Club finished 2nd in the country out of 600+ fencing clubs that participated in the Summer Nationals.

• The club fielded the 2nd largest amount of amount of competitors with 92 students competing in 197 events. Only NY Fencers club had more.

• The club won 2 gold medals along with an additional 11 top-4 results and a total of 21 top-8 finishes placing the club #2 overall in top-4 and top-8 results.

• The club also had an additional 6 top-16 results and 59 out of TMFC’s 92 student’s posted at least a top-32 result in one event.

• This was the first Summer Nationals that TMFC competed in all 3 weapons and the saber program brought home 14 saber, 6 foil and a epee medal.

• The club finished #2 in the country in Saber and tied for 7th place overall in foil medals.
  
  

OUTSTANDING INDIVIDUAL PERFORMANCES INCLUDE:

• SABER GOLDS: Jonah Shainberg brought home the gold in Division 1 men’s saber and followed that up by teaming with Nicka Lortkipanidze, Henry Nadile, Owen Prevey-Sullivan and Team Captain Guga Lorkipanidze to bring home Senior men’s saber team to gold.

• VETERAN MEDALS AND WORLD TEAM: The club won its first 2 Veteran medals in the club’s history with Jasmina Denner bringing home a bronze medal in Veteran-50 women’s saber and Madelon Rosenfeld taking home a silver medal in Veteran-70 on her way to qualifying for the world team!

• FOIL TEAM SILVER: The boys foil team with Finn Hossfeld, Nathan Andrews, Jake McGililon-Moore and Zachary Binder brought home a hard-fought silver medal in senior team foil.

• Sabrina Fang brought home a bronze in cadet women’s foil, Catelyn So a bronze in Youth-10 women’s saber, William Morrill was 3rd in Youth-12 men’s saber, Fiona Neibart was 3rd in Division 3 women’s Saber.

• Three of the Top-4 in Youth-10 Boys Saber: Myles Duckett brought home the silver medal while Emilio Gonzalez and Enzo Bera captured bronze medals to cap an incredible final day at nationals that pushed TMFC into 2nd place.. Gabriel Clark was also top-16 in Youth-10 men’s saber.

• Lex Denner brought home 2 medals with a 5th place finish in Youth-14 men’s saber and a 6th place finish in cadet saber. Lex’s results earned him a top-20 ranking in Cadet for the upcoming season so he will be able to compete in the designated international cadet tournaments for the first time.

• Madison Four-Garcia finished 2nd in Youth-14 women’s saber in addition to top-32 performances in the Cadet and Junior events that have also ranked her in the top-20 in cadet in the country. She will also begin competing for the first time next season at designated international tournaments.

• Sasha Abayeva, Cat Flanagan, Alina Zhang, Guga Lortkipanidze and Mari Ferrari-Bridgers all brought home top-8 medals in there respect events.

• Top-16 Results: With many events over 200 competitors, top-16 results are very strong results and Gabriel Clark, Nowell Gibson, Finn Hossfeld, Adele Bois, Christina Ferrari and Sasha Slobodsky all fought their way into the top-16 of their respective events.

Congratulations to all the TMFC students, parents, staff and coaches. As we often say at the club, ’it takes a village’. We all know that you don’t win your medals at the tournament but through the day to day efforts and grind of the season. We know all our students, coaches and parents work extremely hard to make this all happen. Thank you!

Regardless of medals or not, we are very proud of the way all our students competed, supported each other and learned from the experience. It is only a true loss if you don’t learn something and our student’s are learning that often in defeat, the big lessons for long-term success can be found.

Top Fencing Clubs By Entry Size with Entry Revenue Fees at Summer Nationals 2019

Out of curiosity, we tabulated the number of entries per club and multiplied by the $95 entry fee amount.

We did not include the $75 registration fee so each club probably generated an additional 10-15% of revenue for USA Fencing.

NY Fencers Club Pushes Back Into 1st Place as Tim Morehouse Fencing Club Climbs from 5th to 2nd Place on Day 5 of Summer Nationals

Columbus, Ohio - Manhattan Fencing Centers grip on 1st place lasted one day as NY Fencer’s Club medal haul on day 5 propelled them back into 1st place. Over the first 5 days, the New York Athletic Club, NY Fencer’s Club and Manhattan Fencing Club have all held the top spot.

The big mover on the day 5 was Tim Morehouse Fencing Club which captured 5 medals and rose from 5th place to 2nd place with medals in all 3 weapons and 3 medals in foil.

At the halfway point, 50 events have been competed with close to 400 medals being awarded to the 3000 athletes who have competed so far in the largest fencing competition in the world. Additional, 552 clubs have been represented at this years Summer Nationals and July Challenge 2019.

What will the final 5 days of competition hold? The majority of Youth events, Division 2 and 3 as well as a number of Veteran events are coming up in the final 5 days of Summer Nationals.

Tim Morehouse Fencing Club Storms Up The Rankings Into 2nd Place on Day 5 of Summer Nationals

Columbus, Ohio - Tim Morehouse Fencing Club (TMFC) moved into 2nd place in the medal count with 5 medals won on day 5 of the Summer Nationals and July Challenge 2019. TMFC has now won 11 medals overall and is in 2nd place behind Fencer's Club with 14 medals.

In the most successful Summer National’s day in TMFC history, Madelon Rosenfeld brought home the first Veteran’s medal in the club’s history with a silver medal in the Vet-70 age category. She also qualified for the World Championships and became TMFC’s 3rd national team member.

In Youth-14 men’s saber, Lex Denner followed up on his top-8 performance in Cadet with another hard fought top-8 medal including a come from behind victory in the round of 16. The Tim Morehouse Fencing Club Women’s foil squad then became the first squad to win 2 medals in one event for the club with Sabrina Fang taking home a bronze medal and Cat Flannagan bringing home a top-8 medal with a 5th place finish in cadet women’s foil.

Connor Kravit promised to bring home Tim Morehouse Fencing Club’s first ever Summer National Epee medal and he delivered with a top-8 medal in Cadet men’s saber.

Nowell Gibson Named to the All-Academic and the All-American First Team

New York, NY (June, 2019) - TMFC Fencer Nowell Gibson has been named to the 2018-19 USA Fencing All-Academic First Team and to the 2018-19 USA Fencing All-American First Team. The All-American Team recognizes high school fencers who have achieved a high level of success on the fencing strip. The All-Academic Team recognizes exemplary student athletes who have achieved high academic success in school. Nowell has qualified for both!

Nowell has been fencing at Tim Morehouse Fencing Club since January 2019. He attends the Epee Elite class and trains with the amazing Coach Alex. Nowell is currently competing at the USA Fencing National Championships.

Manhattan Fencing Center Moves Into 1st Place on the 4th Day of the US Summer Fencing Nationals

Columbus, Oh - On the 4th day of competition at the US Summer Nationals, Manhattan Fencing Center became the first club to hit the 10 medal mark as they passed New York Fencers Club and the New York Athletic Club to move into 1st place in the standings.

Nellya Fencers had the biggest individual day at the competition led by their Division 1 women’s fencers bringing home gold, silver and bronze.

Tim Morehouse Fencing Club also had a strong day bringing home 3 medals including a Gold Medal in men’s saber team, a top-8 medal in Cadet men’s saber and a top-8 medal in Div1a women’s foil.

Columbus, OH (June, 2019) - It’s only been three days since Summer Nationals kicked off on Friday, and our fencers from Tim Morehouse Fencing Club are already reaching incredible results. There are seven days remaining, and we can’t wait to see what will happen next!

In the past three days of competition, TMFC fencers achieved three Medals. Jonah Shainberg won a Gold Medal in Div 1 Men’s Saber, and Guga Lortkipanidze won a Top-8 Medal in Junior Men’s Saber. Additionally, the TMFC team won a Silver Medal in Senior Team Men’s Foil. The team consisted of Finn Hossfeld, Nathan Andrews, Jake Mcgillion-Moore, and Zachary Binder.
