The New York Athletic Club Leads the USA Fencing Summer Nationals After Day 1 with 6 Medals

USA Fencing Summer Nationals 2019

The New York Athletic Club soared into day winning 6 medals based on the strength of their Epee fencers performances and a bronze medal from Sylvie Binder in Division 1 women’s foil. Alex Tsinis took home the gold medal in Division 1 men’s epee with Dylan Nollner, Ryan Griffiths and Olympian Jason Pryor also winning Division 1 Epee medals. In Junior women’s epee, Mina Yamanaka also brought home a gold medal for the NYAC.

The NY Fencers club sits in 2nd place with 4 medals. LA International won 2 medals and 20 clubs brought home 1 medal on day 1 including Tim Morehouse Fencing Club, Globus Fencing Academy, Spartak, Premier Fencing Club, Massialias Foundation, V Fencing Club, Team Touche, The Peter Westbrook Foundation were some of the notable powerhouses to bring home a medal.

The winner of the US Summer Fencing Nationals and July Challenge will have the bragging rights of winning the largest fencing competition in the world with “More than 5,400 competitors from 48 states and 20 nations will compete in 94 events over 10 days in what is expected to be the largest edition of the tournament in USA Fencing history.” according to USA Fencing. The standings are calculated by top-8 medal results with each fencer’s primary club earning a point for a top-8 medal result.

Waltham, MA (June 2019) - Twelve students from Tim Morehouse Fencing Club competed in the NEUSFA 2019 Pomme De Terre, an annual tournament at the Brandeis University Gosman Sports Center. The tournament took place over two days and featured 18 events.

Our fencers achieved two Top-8 finishes. Fiona Neibart won a Top-8 Medal in Senior Women’s Saber. Additionally, Christina Ferrari-Bridgers won a Top-8 Medal in Senior Women’s Foil.

TMFC Students Awarded USA Fencing Regional Patches for the 2018-19 Season

Colorado Springs, CO (June, 2019) - USA Fencing announces the patch winners for the Regional Youth Circuit, Regional Junior and Cadet Circuit, and Regional Open Circuit. RYC patches are awarded to the top Y10, Y12 and Y14 fencers of each respective region for the 2018-19 season. RJCC Recognition Program recognizes the gold, silver and bronze medalists in the cadet and junior age categories. The ROC Recognition Program awards patches to Division IA, Division II and veteran fencers for their accomplishments at ROCs throughout the country.

Seven fencers from Tim Morehouse Fencing Club are receiving Patches this year! In the RYC category, patches were awarded to Myles Duckett, Catelyn So, Audrey Young, and Alina Zhang. In RJCC, patches were awarded to David Pavlenishvili, Nathan Andrews, and Peter Hammer. Peter Hammer won two patches this year: a Silver Patch in Cadet Men’s Saber, and a Gold Patch in Junior Men’s Saber.

Mackenzie has been fencing at TMFC since January 2019. She attends the Saber Elite Class and is making progress in leaps and bounds! She trains with our amazing Coach Diana, and occasionally with Coach Tim. Mackenzie recently stepped up her commitment and trained for a full three hours at TMFC. You go Mackenzie!

New York, NY (June, 2019) - TMFC Fencer Peter Hammer has been named to the 2018-19 USA Fencing All-Academic First Team. The All-Academic Team recognizes exemplary student athletes who have achieved high academic success in school.

Peter has been fencing at Tim Morehouse Fencing Club since March 2017. He attends the Saber Elite class and trains with our awesome Coach Achiko.

Madison Four-Garcia Named to the All-Academic and the All-American First Team

New York, NY (June, 2019) - TMFC Fencer Madison Four-Garcia has been named to the 2018-19 USA Fencing All-Academic First Team and to the 2018-19 USA Fencing All-American First Team. The All-American Team recognizes high school fencers who have achieved a high level of success on the fencing strip. The All-Academic Team recognizes exemplary student athletes who have achieved high academic success in school. Madison has qualified for both!

Madison has been training at Tim Morehouse Fencing Club since December 2018. She attends the Saber Elite Class and takes private lessons with Coach Tim. We are so proud of how far she has come!

New York, NY (June, 2019) - Tim Morehouse Fencing Club hosted their final tournament of the season, the Morehouse Season Finale. The event offered an opportunity for new fencers to get some tournament experience, and for more experienced fencers to get ready for Nationals. The tournament was held in two parts: a Youth Saber Cup, and a Saber Open.

At the Saber Open, Gold Medals were awarded to Madison Four-Garcia in Women’s Saber, and Jonah Shainberg in Mixed Saber. Nickoloz Lortkipanidze won a Silver Medal in Mixed Saber. Bronze Medals were awarded to Adele Bois and Marinella Ferrari-Bridgers in Women’s Saber. Top-8 Medals in Women’s Saber were awarded to Madison Duckett, Aria Bevacqua, and Lisa Marsh. Top-8 Medal’s in Mixed Saber were awarded to Ben Theeman and Lortkipanidze, Guram.

At the Youth Saber Cup, Gold Medals were achieved by Aram Clark in Y-8 Mixed Saber, Ruth Radulovic in Y-10 Women’s Saber, Enzo Bera in Y-10 Men’s Saber, and Shaun Kim in Y-12 Men’s Saber. Silver Medals were awarded to Alex Fadel in Y-8 Mixed Saber, Mackenzie Sampson-Alspon in Y-10 Women’s Saber, Myles Duckett in Y-10 Men’s Saber, and Triton Oh in Y-12 Men’s Saber. Bronze Medals were awarded to Aster Oh and Elijah Roper in Y-8 Mixed Saber, Callie Zisson and Olivia Beaton in Y-10 Women’s Saber, Alexander Grigorescu and Gabriel Clark in Y-10 Men’s Saber, and Myles Duckett and Charles Leonard in Y-12 Men’s Saber.

Top-8 finishes were achieved by Noah Pierre, Zihan Zhao, Morgan So, and Charles Hutchison in Y-8 Mixed Saber. In Y-10 Men’s Saber, Top-8 Medals were awarded to Alexandre Gimbrere, Nicolas Nordgren, Ethan Kim, and Aram Clark. Lastly, in Y-12 Men’s Saber, Top-8 Medals were awarded to William Morrill, Inkosi Brou, Enzo Bera, and Daniel Mangan.

(Burlington NJ, June 2019) - Six students from Tim Morehouse Fencing Club headed to Burlington Middle School to compete in the Mr. Mac Cup 2019. Many fencers who participated in this tournament are getting prepared for Summer Nationals and July Challenge. The tournament took place over two days and featured events in Foil, Epee, and Saber.

Our fencers won three Top-8 Medals, one Bronze Medal, and two Silver Medals. Top-8 Medals were achieved by Iris Yang in Y-12 Women’s Foil, James Huayta in Senior Men’s Saber, and Scott Wyche in Junior Men’s Saber. Braden Vaccari won a Bronze Medal in Senior Men’s Saber. Lastly, Silver Medals were awarded to Bethany Lee in Junior Women’s Foil, and Braden Vaccari in Junior Men’s Saber.
