Questions & Answers

Frequently Asked Questions

Everything parents ask before enrolling.

What are pull-out lessons?
Pull-out lessons are short-format lessons built right into class time — no extra scheduling needed. They take place before or during the first 30–40 minutes of class. Sessions may be 10-minute 1-on-1s or 20–30-minute small-group lessons, led by class staff under the supervision of the program lead. Included in Bronze and Silver programs.
What happens during pre-class activities?
Before each session, students participate in structured warm-ups designed to build balance, coordination, strength, and blade control while getting geared up. Pull-out lessons often take place during this time. We recommend arriving 30 minutes early.
Are lessons required in every program?
Yes. Each program combines classes + lessons for balanced skill development. Bronze & Silver: lessons are included as pull-out lessons during class. Gold: requires at least one private lesson per week (2–3 recommended for competitive goals) via a Member Lesson Pack.
What equipment do students need?
All group class students need their own fencing gear. The Group Class Equipment Package ($450) includes mask, glove, jacket, underarm protector, weapon, and cords. Electric jackets and chest protectors are borrowed from the club at no cost. Coaches guide families on proper sizing and when to upgrade for competition.
Are competitions required?
Competitions aren’t required but are highly encouraged. TMFC hosts 6–7 in-house tournaments each season, giving students valuable experience and helping families learn how fencing competitions work in a supportive, familiar environment.
