May 5, 2022 - With one Super Youth Circuit Tournament remaining in the 2021-2022 fencing season, the race for the Best Youth Fencing Club in the Country, as measured by Super Youth Circuit and Youth NAC medals won, comes down to the final SYC in Fairfax, Virginia.
So far this season, 151 Clubs have won SYC medals out of the 173 unique clubs that entered fencers into SYCs and the March Youth North American Cup.
This past weekend, Tim Morehouse Fencing Club surged into 1st place after a strong showing from both its saber and foil programs at the Mission SYC. Tim Morehouse Fencing Club has won 52 medals this season with 26 medals in Foil and 26 in Saber. Sword Fencing Studio is ranked #2 with 45 Youth medals and LA Fencing Club of Pomona is #3 with 43 medals.
Some Takeaways and Other Data Points:
Most Clubs Only Compete in One Weapon: Tim Morehouse Fencing Club is the only club in the country to place 2 weapon programs (Saber and Foil) into the top-5 or even top-30 in Youth medals won. Most clubs making results are specialized now to one weapon or only have one weapon making significant results.
Canadian Youth Fencing is Getting Stronger: This season there were had 411 entries from Canada (mostly Foil and Epee) into SYCs and Canada won 89 medals including 12 golds. XU Jia Bao (Bowen) won 5 gold medals. Since Canada is in our Olympic qualifying zone it might be worth monitoring for Team USA how the Youth results might eventually start playing out in the Cadet, Junior and Senior level.
TOTAL FENCERS: There have been 7719 entries this season so far into SYCs with the Cobra SYC over Thanksgiving weekend having the largest number of entries with 1287. The Fortune City SYC had the second largest number of entries with 1109. The 2 smallest SYCs were Ben Guttenberg with 544 entries and Windy City which had only 495 entries.
TOTAL FENCERS AND CLUBS: 2855 unique fencers competed in SYCs this season from the 173 US clubs that participated. Silicon Valley Fencing Center has had the most SYC entries so far with 305.

In regards to how we are tabulating the overall medal count leaders:
The results are determined by adding all the top-8 medal results from Fencing Time Live from all saber, foil and epee events in both men and women’s events in Youth-10, Youth-12 and Youth-14. (Youth-8 or other events held during an SYC are not counted)
Only a student’s primary club counted and not secondary clubs so there medals only count for 1 club.These are unofficial results but determined using only the raw data of tournament results and following same standard once calculated by the website National Club Rankings which now no longer operates. Happy to fix any inaccuracies if you find them. This isn’t our full-time job! :)
