May NAC Day 2: TMFC Saber Fencers Show Up for Hardware

Richmond, VA (May 7, 2021) — The Tim Morehouse Saber Club fencers really showed their medal Friday.

The Women’s Cadet fencers kickoff the medal parade with Madison Four-Garcia earning silver and Chelsea Delsoin grabbing fifth place. Adéle Bois made the top 16 with a 12th place finish, Amanda Li made top 32 at 22nd place and Fiona Niebart and Aria Bevacqua made the top 64 at 46th and 57th, respectively.

Both Four-Garcia and Li earned new ratings with their performance Friday. Four-Garcia now carries an A21 rating and Li, C21.

Christina Watrall earned sixth place in Cadet women’s épee and was awarded an A21 rating. While officially a New York Athletic Club fencer, she works closely with Coach Alex Zurabishvilli.

The Div 1 men’s events followed with TMFC saber fencers giving it their all. Coach Khalil Thompson held on to win the gold, securing a position on the Olympic Men’s Saber Fencing Team. Jonah Shainberg finished the event in fifth place. Nicka Lortkipanidze held on to finish in the top 16 at 10th place.

TMFC foil and épeé fencers had a harder time in the Div 1 events. Connor Kravit made the top 16 in épeé, coming in 13th. Henry Zhang made the top 64 in foil, reaching 59th place.

In all, three Women’s Cadet events and three Div 1 men’s events took place on day two.

There were other celebrations besides wins on Friday. It was the birthday of Coach Achiko Lortkipanidze and Y-14 fencer Robert Wang. Happy birthday to both!

Action at the May NAC runs from Thursday, May 6 through Sunday, May 9, 2021 at the Greater Richmond Convention Center. Events contested include Division I, Junior, Cadet and Y14 in all three disciplines: épeé, foil and saber.
