Y-12 Women’s Saber Fencers
New York, NY (Dec 4, 2021) — The youngest fencers are trying out their competitive selves.
For many, turning out for their first ever competition proved to be a great move. These young fencers hit the strip Saturday, Dec. 4 at the third in the Morehouse Youth Saber Cup series, at the Tim Morehouse Fencing Club West End location (West End Collegiate Church at 77th Street and West End Avenue, New York).
In the mixed Y-8, Catherine Ong and Chloe Chen battled it out with Ong coming out on top. It was Chen’s second ever competition and she already looked more comfortable on the strip.
In Y-10 Men’s Saber, it was a So family trifecta in the top three positions with Morgan So, Dylan So and Peyton So going gold, silver, bronze in a field of competitors that was nine strong. In Y-10 Women’s Saber, Charlotte Choi, a longtime student of Coach Fraser, earned the gold.
Y-12 men’s and women’s saber and mixed Y-14 saber events were also held with impressive jumps, lunges and airborne moves all around (see below).
It was a great experience to prepare beginners for future regional and national events.
