Meylan, France, (Jan 15, 2022) — Longtime Tim Morehouse Fencers Shaun Kim and Gabriel McCarthy made their international debuts this weekend at the Cadet International for saber in Meylan, France.
Both Kim and McCarthy fared well in their pools, each ending with 5-1 records to move into the direct elimination rounds. McCarthy ended up in the top-16 and Kim in the top-32, both earning international points.
“It was very special to start this next chapter with them in France,” said Tim Morehouse, who accompanied the young men to Meylan. “Both earned critical international points but also tremendous experience.”
Both fencers, in their last year of Y-14, have been fencing at Tim Morehouse Fencing Club since they were Y-10 fencers.
“It is always a proud coach moment to go with a student on their first designated international tournament,” Morehouse said, “especially someone you have coached since they were Y-10.”
