San Jose, CA, Jan 7-10, 2022 — It’s true we should learn from our elders — especially in the case of Coach Ahmed “Hamdy” Refaee.
Coach Hamdy won gold in Vet-40 Men’s Saber definitively. He was first out of pools and never looked back. Clearly, he’s of the “lead by example” school. This was the first gold medal win for Tim Morehouse Fencing Club in a national Vet event. Congratulations Hamdy!
Shaun Kim finished 43rd out of 167 fencers in his first Division I Men’s Saber NAC. He was 4-2 in pools, won his first direct elimination and lost a close one, just missing top-32. He earned his first Division I points and Junior points with this result.
The foil fencers were strong in San Jose, with Sabrina Fang taking the top-16 in Junior Women’s Foil and top-32 in Division I Women’s Foil. Alina Zhang made top-32 in Division I Women’s Foil and top-64 in Junior Women’s Foil.
On the men’s side, Richard Lin and Nickolas Rusadze both made top-64 in Junior Men’s Foil.
Action at the January NAC ran from Friday, January 7 through Monday, January 10, 2022 at the San Jose McEnery Convention Center. Events contested include Division I, Parafencing, Junior and Veteran Age in all three disciplines: épée, foil and saber.
Next up on the national level are the Junior Olympics to be held at the Salt Palace Convention Center in Salt Lake City from February 18 to 21, 2022. Events contested include Junior, Cadet and Junior Team in all three disciplines: épée, foil and saber.
